Colin qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and has been admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Ireland and to the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland. Colin graduated from the University of Dundee in 1997 with an Honours Degree in Law and he joined MTB, which is the sister firm of F V Harty & Co. in 1997. Colin is a partner in both F V Harty & Co. and MTB solicitors. Colin holds a Certificate of Advanced Advocacy from the Law Society of Northern Ireland and is a qualified mediator.

Colin specialises in uninsured loss recovery, personal injury*, specialist banking litigation and unsecured debt recovery. Colin also has wide experience in credit hire matters and licensing.
Colin is an expert in the area of Credit Hire which is becoming more common in the Irish marketplace. He is an active member of the Credit Hire Organisation, the recognised UK trade body for the industry.
Colin has been a lead solicitor in the following notable credit hire cases in Northern Ireland:

- Salt v Helley (2009) NIQB 69
Colin has acted for many individuals who have been injured in accidents all over Ireland and has achieved significant settlements.
Colin has lectured to the solicitors’ profession in Northern Ireland on these issues.
Colin also recovers debts on behalf of SME’s and private individuals.
Colin acts for members of the Hospitality Industry in Northern Ireland and is the co-editor of both the 2012 and 2015 editions of the “Guide to Liquor Licensing in Northern Ireland” published by Hospitality Ulster.
Colin is a member of the executive committee for the Belfast Solicitors’ Association and is a former Chair. In addition he sits on the Independent Complaints Panel which administers the Joint Industry Code for the Responsible Promotion & Retail of Alcohol in Northern Ireland.
Away from work Colin is a former head of youth rugby at Instonians RFC and is a member of the Northern Ireland Solicitors’ Golf Society. Colin is passionate about projects that help others and in 2015 travelled with a local NI charity to build a school in Uganda.
